Resource and waste treatment technologies for a sustainable society

Waste management and recycling

Waste management and recycling is inevitable technology for the realization of a sustainable society. We are developing technologies to separate and recover rare metals at low cost from E-waste such as lithium-ion batteries. We are addressing the researches about optimal grinding/separation process, hydrometallurgical process of rare metals, and selective recovery method for specific elements toward industrial application.

Utilization method of intractable wastes

It is important to find out a new utilization method of intractable wastes for reducing the waste amount. We are investigating the use of concrete waste and steel slag for environmental purification (e.g. wastewater treatment) and artificial fixation of carbon dioxide.

Mineral processing and hydrometallurgical process of the deep-sea mineral resources

Deep-sea mineral resources will become a frontier resource in 21st century as the depletion of mineral resources on land. We are developing the mineral processing technique and hydrometallurgical process for the REY-rich mud and manganese nodules toward the actual exploitation in near future.
