February 28, 2020 To Members of School of Engineering and Graduate School of Information Science and Technology Dean of School of Engineering Dean of Graduate School of Information Science and Technology Important Information Regarding the Novel Coronavirus Infection As has been widely reported, the novel coronavirus infection has been spreading rapidly around the world, including Japan. All students, faculty members and staff should act not only from the perspective of protecting their own health, but also from a sense of responsibility as members of society, and therefore should reduce the possibility of transmission to other people. In order to accomplish this, please act according to the schools’ following instructions, in addition to the latest cautions*1 and instructions*2 issued by the Japanese government and The University of Tokyo. For students: 1.If you have any cold-like symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose, sneezing, etc.), contact your supervisor or the department chair, recover at home, and please do not come to campus. The Graduate School and faculty will give due consideration to prevent you from falling behind in your coursework and research. If symptoms persist, please follow the latest instructions from the Japanese government (refer to *1 and *2 below), and contact your department office. 2.If you plan to travel abroad, be sure to check the latest information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Overseas Safety home page*3 and carefully consider whether it is appropriate to follow through with your plans. In addition, be sure to contact your supervisor or the department chair in advance well before you depart, and submit a notification of overseas travel to your department office. For faculty members: 1.If there are any students feeling unwell according to the symptoms described above, please encourage them to recover at home as long as necessary, and give due consideration to prevent the students from falling behind in their coursework and research. Also, please be understanding with regards to students who are traveling abroad. 2.If you have any cold-like symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose, sneezing, etc.), please refrain from going to work or any other outside activities, and recover at home. If symptoms persist, please follow the latest instructions from the Japanese government (refer to *1 and *2 below), and contact your department chair. 3.In awareness of the long incubation period of the virus, please consider cancellation, postponement, or reduction in scale of your laboratory’s participation in various seminars, events, academic conferences, etc., to minimize the risk of transmitting infection to laboratory members including students. We expect that School of Engineering and Graduate School of Information Science and Technology should naturally be equipped to conduct seminars, etc., online. 4.As stated to students in 2. above, please check the latest information and carefully consider whether it is appropriate to travel abroad. For non-faculty staff members: 1. If you have any cold-like symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose, sneezing, etc.), please make use of the telecommuting system or paid leave to avoid going to your workplace or to other outside activities as much as possible, and recover at home. If you have any issues, please consult your senior manager. 2. Even if you have no health problems, please make use of the time-staggered commuting described elsewhere and telecommuting systems, and try to avoid commuting to work via crowded public transportation as much as possible.
