Important Information Regarding the Novel Coronavirus Infection

As has been widely reported, the novel coronavirus infection has been spreading rapidly
around the world, including Japan.
All students, faculty members and staff should act not only from the perspective of
protecting their own health, but also from a sense of responsibility as members of
society, and therefore should reduce the possibility of transmission to other people.
In order to accomplish this, please act according to the schools’ following
instructions, in addition to the latest cautions*1 and instructions*2 issued by the
Japanese government and The University of Tokyo.

For students:
1.If you have any cold-like symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose, sneezing, etc.), contact
your supervisor or the department chair, recover at home, and please do not come to
campus.
The Graduate School and faculty will give due consideration to prevent you from falling
behind in your coursework and research.
If symptoms persist, please follow the latest instructions from the Japanese government
(refer to *1 and *2 below), and contact your department office.
2.If you plan to travel abroad, be sure to check the latest information from the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs Overseas Safety home page*3 and carefully consider whether it is
appropriate to follow through with your plans.
In addition, be sure to contact your supervisor or the department chair in advance well
before you depart, and submit a notification of overseas travel to your department office.

For faculty members:
1.If there are any students feeling unwell according to the symptoms described above,
please encourage them to recover at home as long as necessary, and give due consideration
to prevent the students from falling behind in their coursework and research.
Also, please be understanding with regards to students who are traveling abroad.
2.If you have any cold-like symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose, sneezing, etc.), please
refrain from going to work or any other outside activities, and recover at home.
If symptoms persist, please follow the latest instructions from the Japanese government
(refer to *1 and *2 below), and contact your department chair.
3.In awareness of the long incubation period of the virus, please consider cancellation,
postponement, or reduction in scale of your laboratory’s participation in various
seminars, events, academic conferences, etc., to minimize the risk of transmitting
infection to laboratory members including students.
We expect that School of Engineering and Graduate School of Information Science and
Technology should naturally be equipped to conduct seminars, etc., online.
4.As stated to students in 2. above, please check the latest information and carefully
consider whether it is appropriate to travel abroad.

For non-faculty staff members:
1. If you have any cold-like symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose, sneezing, etc.), please
make use of the telecommuting system or paid leave to avoid going to your workplace or to
other outside activities as much as possible, and recover at home. If you have any
issues, please consult your senior manager.
2. Even if you have no health problems, please make use of the time-staggered commuting
described elsewhere and telecommuting systems, and try to avoid commuting to work via
crowded public transportation as much as possible.
