My laboratory conducts research on wind turbines and vehicles made of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP), including structural design, statistical properties of mechanical properties and recycling methods, with the aim of solving environmental and energy problems. In this context, as an extra-curricular activity that made use of the knowledge acquired by each member of the laboratory, a team of laboratory members took part in the SAMPE Student Bridge Contest World Championships. This is an annual world competition for lightweight bridges made of fiber-reinforced composites. The laboratory team represented Japan in 2022 (see photo) and 2023 and won the competition for two consecutive years. Through this experience, the team gained a lot of experience in teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills, which cannot be gained from university research or participation in international conferences alone.
